This year our class is taking on the challenge of trying to solve some of the issues that have plagued our globe over the past twenty years. This page is designed to record our journey along the way as well as serve as a dumping ground for any information that we may come across as we begin and continue to research a possible solution.

Global Issue #1:
Are group has decided to solve the problem of Global Warming or now known as Climate Change.
Background of Issue: (who?, what?, where?, when?, why?)
Who - Allegedly the population of the world have "caused" Climate Change because they did not take care of the environment.
What - Global Warming (a.k.a. Climate Change)
Where - Although it is happening everywhere Global Warming is getting made in China and other Industrial and high populated areas. Global Warming has had the most effect on the polar ice caps.
When - In 1896, a man named S. Arrhenius wrote a paper telling that carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel burning would cause hole in the ozone layer to cause “Global Warming.” It really wasn’t discovered by any one person, but by the 1990s it was a popular belief.

Two sided arguement
1 side : CO2 levels are at an all time high; will result in rising ocean levels
2 side : CO2 levels are NOT at an all time high; but we do need to reduce the amount of CO2 we let off
"3" side : COMMON GOAL -- Reducing the amounts of CO2 emissions;
Costs: human and/or financial cost?
The resources needed to solve the problem of Climate Change.
stop emmsions of Green House Gases (GHGs)
using technology that may reduce the amount of GHGs called "stabilization wedges"
efficiency to new vehicles and factories
the costs will be factored around (not monetary)
more of a time cost as far as preventing (disasters:)
oil spills
(limited resource - why are we not looking for alternatives
Second View
deviate away from coal as a fuel source
different fuel sources give off different amounts of co2
coal mines switched to natural gas ( cleaner burn)
Previous Efforts Put Into Place to Help Resolve Issue:
No efforts have been put in
Efforts: mean something has changed significantly
Previous attempts in trying to solve this world issue include:
Smart Car
Turbins
Can't be resolved BUT reduced!
Carpooling
Hybrids
Solar Energy
Alt. Fuels
Reasons why previous efforts to help resolve issue have failed:
Not enough participants
Not enough people care
Not enough people CAN
Not enough people know the danger and what will happen
Areas of concern on reaching your desired solution to the global issue:
- Raising Awareness
- Educating People
- Getting people to believe what is happening
- Reducing the
YOUR PLAN OF ACTION! (for this section, you will need to provide the most detail as you lay a step-by-step plan on how your group will go about tackling this issue. It is important that you take a look at all the information you have researched and studied and use that information to develop a true, realistic and effective plan of action. The plan needs to include funding, people involved, time length of project, materials needed, etc…)
